August 11, 2024 Back to Tikaboo Peak

This was my first accent to Tikaboo Peak without getting lost or relying on my GPS app to keep me on the trail. Also on this outing, I noticed that the Tikaboo Peak weather station is visable from the trail head! The trail head is about a 22 mile drive from the nearest town, Alamo, NV.

My first rest stop was about 17 minutes in. Feeling good. Much of the trail is obvious, other times, not so much. By defaulting to the right along the uphill climb, you'll always find the trail, which follows a mountain ledge. In an earlier post I suggested walking past a tree to get to the top of the first climb. That's actually not the best idea, there is a path that juts off to the right, before the tree, that provides an easier path.

Today is perfect hiking; weather is perfect, cool breeze, so quiet, no cluster flys, amazing day. It took an hour to hike to the base of Tikaboo Peak. I'm feeling good, and could continue, but there is a comfortable camp chair here to enjoy.

This area offers a couple campsites. There is a small campsite near the top as well. These offer a place to stay the night, as Area 51 is typically lit up at night, including building and the runway. Also, daybreak is a good time to view Area 51 as the sun is behind the viewer. There are larger campsites near the trail head.
